5 Tips for Maui

1. Book a Reservation to See a Haleakala Sunrise

It will be an early morning and a long winding drive, but it is absolutely worth it to see a Haleakala sunrise on a clear day! You will have to book a reservation online in advance (reservations are not required for sunsets) for around $1, and then you will pay a park entrance fee of $25 when you arrive. Be sure to book early, reservations usually fill up months in advance. You can check for availability at 7:00 AM local time, 48 hours prior to the date you would like to visit. Spots open up at this time, but are filled very quickly.

2. Plan for Water Activities First

High surf can be as early as 12:00 PM, so you will want to plan any water activities for the first part of your day. The second best time is after 4:00 PM, although it can be more windy in the afternoon.

3. Stock Up on Groceries

Stock up your hotel with groceries from local stores like Costco, Safeway, or Foodland to save money on food.

4. Book Fine Dining Reservations in Advance

Be sure to book fine dining reservations before you leave for your trip. Many of the popular restaurants on the island book up months in advance. If you are unable to book far enough in advance, you can always check for last minute cancellations.

5. Bring your Own Snorkel Gear

There are several beaches throughout the island that do not have gear for you to rent. If you have your own equipment, it will allow you to get in the water without having to spend time looking for gear and returning it before you go.

Happy travels!
