We went on our first night dive in Big Island, Hawaii. It was a two-tank dive, with the first one at twilight and the second one after dark. The first dive gave us a chance to get to know the area and see the beauty of the coral and natural wildlife. We went back down after dark and swam about 20-30 feet to the ocean floor below, gathering in a semi-circle around “the campfire,” where bright lights surrounded by rocks shown toward the water’s surface. It was mesmerizing to watch the fish swim near the lights of the campfire as we waited for manta rays to hunt for plankton. After spending time at the “campfire,” we went on a reef dive with flashlights. It was a dive unlike any other and an experience that I’ll never forget. See video below!
