1. Snorkel or Go Scuba Diving
Hawaii is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in America. The water has incredible visibility, allowing you to fully experience the clear waters and diverse marine life. It is easiest if you take your own snorkel gear because most beaches do not have rentals. If you would like to experience diving but aren’t ready to commit to getting your certification, you can take a beginner scuba course to explore the waters of Hawaii up close.
2. Prepare for Climate Changes
You can experience 10 of the 14 climate zones in the world on Big Island. To be prepared, be sure to bring a rain jacket while in Hilo and a warm jacket for the 50 degree (and below) temperatures for hiking Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa.
3. Plan Your Hikes
Big Island has so much to explore with parks that lead you to mountain views, waterfalls, and beautiful coastlines. Trails are not always marked very clearly and it is best to plan your route before you go. A map downloaded to your phone would be good to have just in case you need help finding your way around.
A hui hou!
